  15. Thanks for your help.  I discovered that I needed to copy install.sh
  16. to kpathsea and reencode for the 'make install' to work.  I'm not a
  17. very knowledgeable UNIX person and scripts were a big unknown for me
  18. - but I worked it out after getting some sleep and thought on it.
  19.  
  20. In order to get WEC2C to install  I had to add a step to the installation
  21. procedure 'web2c/INSTALL' 
  22. step 4.5: in kpathsea I had to do a 'configure' otherwise I get a 
  23. 'no target file msg'.   Maybe this compensates for some other error(s).

  25. Also, after building dvips and web2c,  I ran latex and dvips (so far)
  26. and found that I had to change the permissions on 'virmf' in /usr/local/bin
  27. otherwise I get a 'can't execute mf' msg.
  28.  
  29. Also, I ran 'make triptrap and that whole section in web2c/INSTALL
  30. and got a whole bunch of incomprehensible msgs  which I chose to ignore
  31. but it seems to works so far and a very simple 'hello world' latex file.

  33. This is my first installation of anything like this and it was relatively
  34. painless.  I didn't know what to expect.  Thanks for your help.  It's
  35. really nice to know somebody's listening out there and willing to help.
  36. Different from some commercial ventures...

  38. Installed on a HP9000/755 HpUx-9.?  Will be trying to get xdvi running
  39. when I get on a graphics terminal at work.
